About Anthaxia sponsa Kiesenwetter, 1857

Anthaxia sponsa Kiesenwetter, 1857 displays clear sexual dimorphism. Males have a metallic green coloration on both their upper and lower bodies, with two black to black-blue longitudinal stripes running along the pronotum. Female body color is variable. Typically, females have green elytra, a reddish-gold pronotum that still bears the same black to black-blue longitudinal stripes found in males, and a purplish-gold underside. Body hairs are generally inconspicuous, except for the forehead region in both sexes. This species has a pontomediterranean distribution, with recorded occurrences in Turkey, Greece, Israel, Georgia, Bulgaria, Azerbaijan, North Macedonia, Palestine, Iran, Lebanon, and Syria.
