About Anser serrirostris Gould, 1852
Anser serrirostris (tundra bean goose) measures 68 to 90 cm (27–35 in) in length, has a wingspan of 140 to 174 cm (55–69 in), and weighs between 1.7 and 4 kg (3.7–8.8 lb). For the nominate subspecies, males have an average weight of 3.2 kg (7.1 lb) and females average 2.84 kg (6.3 lb). Its bill is black at the base and tip, with an orange band across the middle section; its legs and feet are also bright orange. Its upper wing-coverts are dark brown, matching the coloration seen in the white-fronted goose (Anser albifrons) and the lesser white-fronted goose (A. erythropus). It differs from these two species by having narrow white fringes along its feathers. Its voice is a loud honk, with a higher pitch in smaller subspecies. The closely related pink-footed goose (A. brachyrhynchus) can be distinguished by its short bill with a bright pink middle section, pink feet, and upper wing-coverts that are a similar bluish-grey to those of the greylag goose. This species does not have regular wintering sites. It occurs in small groups mixed with other grey goose species, with WWT Slimbridge in Gloucestershire and Holkham Marshes in Norfolk being among its most regularly observed locations.
