Taxonomy and Common Name
Anolis garmani Stejneger, 1899, commonly known as the Jamaican giant anole, is by far the largest species in the Norops group.
Snout-Vent Length
Adult males have a snout–vent length (SVL) of 10–13.1 cm (3.9–5.2 in), while females measure 8–9.5 cm (3.1–3.7 in) in snout–vent length.
Total Length
Including the tail, adults generally reach 20–30 cm (7.9–11.8 in) in total length, with a maximum reported total length of 36.8 cm (14 in).
Body Coloration
Although typically green in color, the Jamaican giant anole turns dark brown at night.
Dewlap Characteristics
Males have a dewlap with an orange center and yellow outer coloration; the female's dewlap is small and dusky in color.
Native and Introduced Range
This species is native to Jamaica, and has been introduced into Florida.
Grand Cayman Occurrence
Recent records document its presence on Grand Cayman, but it remains unclear if the species has become established there.
Habitat and Altitude Range
Its preferred natural habitat is forest at altitudes ranging from sea level to 1,300 m (4,300 ft), but it can also be found living on large trees in gardens.

Anolis garmani is oviparous.
