The only known species in this genus is Anisopogon avenaceus R.Br., which is native to Victoria and New South Wales in Australia. This species is commonly called oat speargrass. It is a perennial grass that can grow up to 1.5 metres tall, and produces spikelets that reach up to 6 centimetres in length.
