About Anisognathus igniventris (d'Orbigny & Lafresnaye, 1837)

The scarlet-bellied mountain tanager, scientifically named Anisognathus igniventris, is a bird species belonging to the family Thraupidae. This species occurs in Andean forests, woodlands, and shrublands across Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. Some taxonomic classifications split this group into two separate species. The first is A. lunulatus, which retains the common name scarlet-bellied mountain tanager and ranges from central Peru northwards. The second is A. igniventris, called the fire-bellied mountain tanager, that ranges from central Peru southwards. The fire-bellied mountain tanager (A. igniventris) has a lighter, more orangish belly compared to the scarlet-bellied mountain tanager (A. lunulatus).
