About Angelica pubescens Maxim.
Angelica pubescens Maxim. is a herbaceous perennial plant in the Apiaceae family, native to Japan and Taiwan. Its Japanese common name is shishiudo. In Mainland China, plants labeled as Angelica pubescens are actually classified as the separate species Angelica biserrata. This species grows to 1–2 meters tall, with tripinnate leaves that reach up to 1 meter long; its individual leaflets measure 5–10 cm in length. It produces white flowers arranged in large umbels. The young stems and leaves of this plant are edible. Shishiudo is frequently mistaken for udo.
