About Androstoma empetrifolia Hook.fil.

Androstoma empetrifolia Hook.fil. is a shrubby plant similar to mingimingi, with leafy branches that bear short, alternating leaves and produces red fruits. It is found throughout New Zealand, growing on all three of the country’s major islands as well as some outlying island groups. This species occurs in environments ranging from coastal to alpine, and it is typically associated with wetlands or bogs, as reflected in its English common name. It can also be found in poorly-drained rocky areas in alpine zones. The seeds of this species are dispersed via frugivory, but no published studies have yet identified which animals act as seed dispersers.
