Andropogon longiberbis Hack. is a bunch grass that grows to a height of 5 to 10 decimeters, which equals approximately 1.64 to 3.28 feet. Its leaf blades grow at the base of individual stems, and reach 11 to 50 centimeters in length (approximately 4.33 to 19.69 inches), with a width of 2 to 10 millimeters. On each culm, inflorescence units most commonly number 45, though the total count can range anywhere from 7 to 97.
Within the United States, this species occurs from North Carolina to southern Florida. It grows best in semi-open, sunny areas, and has been observed growing in roadsides, ditches, pine plantations, and other similar environments.
