About Andropogon capillipes Nash

Andropogon capillipes, commonly called chalky bluestem, is a species of grass. It is native to the southeastern United States, ranging as far west as Texas. This is a perennial grass that grows between 3 and 5 feet tall. Its leaf blades are folded, and the longest blades can reach 25 inches in length. The entire plant is covered in a chalky residue that rubs off easily. This grass species is used for grazing livestock. It grows well on wet, sandy, and mucky substrates, and can also be used to prevent erosion. One cultivar of this species, 'Valdosta Blue', is grown as an ornamental grass.
