About Anania stachydalis (Germar, 1821)
Anania stachydalis (Germar, 1821) is a species of moth belonging to the family Crambidae. This species is found in Europe, and it closely resembles the species Anania coronata. The wingspan of Anania stachydalis ranges from 23 to 25 mm. Its forewings are dark fuscous, with slightly darker wing lines. The first line is indistinct, while the second line curves very strongly outwards above the middle, and has a deep abrupt inward sinuation below this point. A whitish-yellowish spot sits within the curve of the second line, and the upper half of the second line is interruptedly edged with whitish-yellowish on its posterior side. The orbicular dot and linear discal mark are darker than the surrounding wing, and are separated by a whitish-yellowish spot. The hindwings match the forewings in base color, but the pale spots in the disc are larger and positioned closer to each other, with an additional pale costal spot before the second line. The larva is green, with white coloring at the incisions. It has a white subdorsal line, a fine whitish spiracular line, green spots that are ringed with whitish, and a whitish head. The adult moth flies from May to August, with the timing varying depending on the location. The larvae feed on plants from the genus Stachys.
