About Anania funebris Ström, 1768

This species, Anania funebris Ström, 1768, has a wingspan of 20–23 mm (0.79-0.92 inches). Its forewings are black, with a large round white subdorsal spot located before the middle of the wing, and a second white spot positioned in the disc beyond the middle of the wing. There is sometimes an additional small white dot above the first spot, and the cilia are white toward the wing tips. The hindwings match the forewings in appearance, but do not have the extra white dot. Mature larvae are ochreous-whitish in base color, with a deep green dorsal line, green subdorsal and lateral lines, and whitish-green spiracular markings. All larval dots are green, and the larval head is whitish-brown. For additional information, see Parsons et al.
