About Anaciaeschna jaspidea (Burmeister, 1839)
Anaciaeschna jaspidea is a large brown dragonfly with blue eyes. Its thorax is reddish-brown, marked with two broad greenish-yellow stripes on each side. The wings are transparent, and have a reddish-brown pterostigma. The abdomen is reddish-brown, marked with azure-blue, white, and yellow. Segment 1 of the abdomen has a large pale yellow spot on each side. Segment 2 of the abdomen has white markings on its sides and azure-blue coloring on its dorsum, with a broad reddish-brown spot on the mid-dorsum. Abdomen segments 3 through 7 are brown on the dorsum, with black apical annules. Abdomen segments 8 through 10 are darker on the dorsum, with a pair of dorsal apical spots. The anal appendages are dark reddish-brown. Females look similar to males. Anaciaeschna jaspidea is a crepuscular species, meaning it flies during dawn and dusk. It is common in marshes surrounded by woods, where it breeds.
