About Amphilophium crucigerum (L.) L.G.Lohmann
Amphilophium crucigerum (L.) L.G.Lohmann is a species of flowering plant in the Bignoniaceae family. Its native range extends from Mexico through Central America into South America, reaching as far south as Argentina. It was first formally described in 1753 by Carl Linnaeus, under the name Bignonia crucigera. The synonym Pithecoctenium crucigerum has been frequently used for this species. It has become an invasive weed in Australia. Chemical analysis of methanol extracts from this plant recovered the iridoid glycoside theviridoside, as well as five phenylethanoid glycosides: verbascoside, isoverbascoside, forsythoside B, jionoside D, and leucosceptoside B. All five phenylethanoid glycosides are active against DPPH.
