About Amphiallagma parvum (Selys, 1876)

Amphiallagma parvum is a small damselfly species. Males have sky-blue eyes with a slight black cap. Their thorax is black on the dorsum, marked with two very broad antehumeral azure blue stripes bordered by black, and their lateral thorax sides are pale blue. The abdomen is pale blue, with black markings on the dorsum extending up to segment 7. Segments 8 through 10 are blue, and segment 10 has a narrow mid-dorsal black stripe. Females are generally similar in shape to males, but the base color of the thorax and eyes is greenish yellow instead of blue. Dorsal black markings extend across all abdominal segments in typical females, while the lateral sides of the abdomen remain pale blue. Androchrome females of this species also exist, with coloration matching that of males. This species is commonly found among vegetation growing along the banks of ponds, lakes, and marshes, where it breeds.
