About Ametris nitocris (Cramer)

Ametris nitocris, commonly known as the seagrape spanworm moth, is a moth species that belongs to the family Geometridae. This species was first formally described by Pieter Cramer in 1780. Its distribution ranges from the southern United States, specifically including Florida, through Central America, and extends into South America. It can also be found on the Antilles islands. The wingspan of adult Ametris nitocris measures approximately 43 mm. In some regions of Florida, the larvae of this species are called the greater inchworm. These larvae feed on the plant Coccoloba diversifolia.
