About Ambrosia eriocentra (A.Gray) W.W.Payne
Ambrosia eriocentra is a rounded shrub that grows to over 1.5 metres (4.9 ft) tall. Its stems are brownish gray: young twigs are covered in light woolly fibers, while older branches are bare. The leaves are lance-shaped, reaching up to 9 centimeters long not including their winged petioles, and have rolled, lobed or toothed edges. Like other ragweeds, its inflorescence holds a few staminate (male) flower heads next to several single-flowered pistillate heads. This species blooms from April to June. Its fruit is a green burr around a centimeter long, covered in long, silky white hairs and marked by several sharp spines that end in hair tufts. This plant is native to the Mojave Desert in the southwestern United States, where it occurs in southern California, southern Nevada, northwestern Arizona, and southwestern Utah. It grows on the Mojave Desert's plains and mountain ridges, at elevations up to 1,700 metres (5,600 ft).
