About Ambrosia cordifolia (A.Gray) W.W.Payne

Ambrosia cordifolia, commonly known as Tucson bur ragweed, is a North American plant species belonging to the Asteraceae family. It is native to northern Mexico, specifically the states of Sonora, Sinaloa, San Luis Potosí, Guanajuato, and Baja California Sur, as well as to the state of Arizona in the United States. This species grows as a shrub that can reach up to 50 cm (20 inches) in height. Its leaves are triangular or heart-shaped. Because this plant is wind-pollinated, its flower heads are small and not noticeable. As the seeds ripen, these flower heads develop into spiny burs. The common name references Tucson, Arizona, because Cyrus G. Pringle first discovered the species in the mountains near Tucson in 1884.
