About Amblycheila cylindriformis (Say, 1823)

Amblycheila cylindriformis (Say, 1823) is a species of flightless tiger beetle. It belongs to the genus Amblycheila; at least five other species in this genus are found in the United States, and a small number of additional species are found in Mexico. This flightless beetle is nocturnal, and inhabits grassland areas of the Great Plains. The northernmost edge of its documented range is far-southwestern South Dakota. At night, A. cylindriformis can be found walking across bare ground, and individuals can be collected using pitfall traps. Larval tunnels of this species occur in Colby silt loam soil.
