About Amanita vittadinii (Moretti) Vittad.
Saproamanita vittadinii, commonly called Vittadini's lepidella, is a saprophytic mushroom native to Europe that is classified in the genus Saproamanita. Its scientific name is also recorded as Amanita vittadinii (Moretti) Vittad. Unlike some species in the Amanita group, this mushroom is known to grow without forming symbiotic relationships with nearby woody plants. Its overall appearance falls somewhere between mushrooms of the Macrolepiota and Armillaria genera. However, it can be distinguished from these two genera by its completely pure white color (both Macrolepiota and Armillaria are typically brownish) and the scaly, squamous covering on its cap and stipe. In 2019, amateur mycologist Denis Pouclet experimentally ate 30 grams (1.1 oz) of fresh S. vittadinii collected in France, and no adverse symptoms were reported after consumption.
