About Amanita polypyramis (Berk. & M.A.Curtis) Sacc., 1887
Amanita polypyramis (Berk. & M.A.Curtis) Sacc., 1887 is a species of the Amanita genus that occurs in the Eastern United States. It is a large, bone-white mushroom that has an unusual sweet odor similar to chlorine. Its specific epithet, polypyramis, refers to the pyramid-shaped warts on the surface of its pileus, or cap. While some sources list its range as extending from New Jersey to Costa Rica in Central America, this species has been found as far north as New England, and is largely concentrated around Cape Cod.
