About Amanita ibotengutake T.Oda, C.Tanaka & Tsuda
Amanita ibotengutake T.Oda, C.Tanaka & Tsuda is an agaric fungus species belonging to the family Amanitaceae, and it is native to Japan. It was first formally recognized as a distinct species in 2002, when genetic analysis separated it from Amanita pantherina. Prior to this separation, it had been classified under the name A. pantherina. Its scientific name comes from ibotengutake, the Japanese name for Amanita strobiliformis written as 疣天狗茸, which literally translates to "wart tengu mushroom". This Japanese name is also the source of the name of the compound ibotenic acid. Amanita ibotengutake contains both ibotenic acid and muscimol, making the species toxic and psychoactive.
