About Amanita franchetii (Boud.) Fayod
Amanita franchetii has a cap that is 5โ12 centimetres (2โ4+1โ2 inches) wide, and ranges in color from yellow-brown to brown. Its flesh is white or pale yellow with a mild odor. Closely spaced gills match the color of the flesh. The thick stipe is larger at the base, ranges from white to yellowish, and has loose patches of yellow veil on its base. A thick ring remains from the partial veil. The main species Amanita franchetii grows in Europe and North Africa, in association with oaks (Quercus ssp.), chestnuts (Castanea ssp.), and pines (Pinus ssp.). The variety Amanita franchetii var. lactella is found in the western Mediterranean region, where it grows alongside multiple oak species (Quercus suber and Q. robur) and hornbeam (Carpinus betulus); this variety has also been reported from Serbia.
