About Alyssum montanum L.
Alyssum montanum, also known as Alyssum montanum L., is a flowering plant species in the Brassicaceae family. It is an evergreen, prostrate perennial that bears small, hairy, greyish leaves. This plant usually reaches 10 to 15 centimeters in height, and spreads 30 to 45 centimeters across. From May to July, it produces tiny, yellow, fragrant flowers that are typically 4 to 6 millimeters across, and these flowers grow in dense racemes. It is native to France, Switzerland, and Germany. It grows best in full sun locations with well-drained soil, and becomes drought tolerant once it is established. It is suited for USDA hardiness zones 3 to 9, but it may be susceptible to aphids and root rot. One recognized subspecies is Alyssum montanum subsp. gmelinii (Jord. & Fourr.) Hegi & E.Schmid, which has the synonym Alyssum gmelinii Jord.
