About Aloe davyana Schönland

A key to distinguish among the three recognized varieties of Aloe davyana is as follows: If the plant has 12 - 14 leaves, broadly conical racemes, and flowers that are pale flesh - pink, dull brick - red, pinkish, or white, proceed to step 2. If it has up to 30 leaves, ± cylindrical racemes, and bright orange to bright red flowers, it is Aloe davyana var. magdae. In step 2, if the rosettes are solitary or form groups of 2 - 4 by suckering, and the flowers are 32 - 35 mm long and pale flesh - pink to dull brick - red, it is A. davyana var. davyana. If the rosettes are solitary or form groups of up to 20 by suckering, and the flowers are 22 - 30 mm long and pale flesh - pink, light pink, or almost white, it is A. davyana var. subolifera.
