About Allium bidentatum Fisch. ex Prokh. & Ikonn.-Gal.
Allium bidentatum is an Asian plant species belonging to the amaryllis family. Its native distribution covers Mongolia, Russia (including Buryatiya, Zabaykalsky Krai, Krasnoyarsk, and Primorye), Kazakhstan, and northern China (including Hebei, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, and Xinjiang). This species grows in well-lit locations, and can sometimes be found growing in saline soil. Allium bidentatum produces very narrow cylindrical bulbs that are rarely more than 4 mm across. Its scape is round in cross-section and can grow up to 30 cm tall. The leaves are more or less round in cross-section, reaching up to 15 cm in length. It forms a hemispherical umbel that bears red or red-violet flowers. Two varieties of this species are currently recognized: Allium bidentatum var. bidentatum, found across most of the species' full range, and Allium bidentatum var. qinggouense Tolgor & Y.T.Zhao, which is found in Inner Mongolia.
