About Allamanda blanchetii A.DC.

Allamanda blanchetii A.DC., also commonly known as purple allamanda, violet allamanda, or red bell, is called Pilaghanti in Sanskrit, and has the scientific synonym Allamanda violacea. It is a species of perennial flowering plant in the family Apocynaceae, and is native to Brazil. It is cultivated as an ornamental plant, and grows best in full sun in USDA Zones 9b through 11; this growing range includes central and south Florida, southernmost Texas, and coastal California in the United States. This plant produces purple, bell-shaped blooms that are approximately 3 inches across. Strong, silky white fiber can be extracted from its stems after chemical treatment.
