About Alisma lanceolatum With.
Alisma lanceolatum With. is a perennial herb that grows from a caudex in water or mud. It typically grows to around 0.7 meters in height, with a spread of 0.25 meters. It produces lance-shaped leaves 12 to 20 centimeters long and 4 centimeters wide, borne on long petioles; leaves that stay submerged underwater are smaller and have less prominent veins. Its inflorescence is mostly erect and can grow up to half a meter tall. It bears many small pinkish-purple three-petalled flowers that open in the morning, flowering from June to August. Its fruit is a tiny achene up to 2 or 3 millimeters long, and these achenes cluster into an aggregate fruit containing around 20 units. Its seeds are reddish-brown and about 1.5 millimeters long. For cultivation, it grows best in water 15 to 30 centimeters deep in full sun, and is suitable for USDA hardiness zones 5 to 8.
