About Alibertia edulis (Rich.) A.Rich. ex DC.

Alibertia edulis (Rich.) A.Rich. ex DC. is an evergreen, dioecious tree that reaches up to 25 feet (7.5 meters) tall when mature. It has light brownish bark and opposite, ovate, dark green leaves with smooth margins. Its flowers are white, hairy, and range from tubular to trumpet-shaped, growing in 4-8 inch panicles, with 4-5 petals per flower. The tree produces yellow, ovate (egg-shaped) edible fruit, which is used to make jam or juices. Fruits of this species are collected from wild-growing trees, as Alibertia edulis is very rarely cultivated.
