About Aleuron chloroptera Perty

Aleuron chloroptera is a moth species belonging to the family Sphingidae. It was first described by Maximilian Perty in 1833. This species is confirmed to occur in southern Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, and Ecuador. It is thought to also be present in Uruguay, El Salvador, and Panama. The wingspan of adults ranges from 64 to 70 mm. In most of its range, adults can be found in flight from at least April through January. In Costa Rica specifically, adult moths have been recorded in January, between April and August, and between November and December. Adult Aleuron chloroptera feed on nectar from plants in the Callianra, Inga, and Duranta genera. The larvae of this species feed on Curatella americana and Davilla nitida, and likely feed on other species in the Dilleniaceae family as well.
