Geographic Distribution
This species is endemic to southern China, southeastern Myanmar, and northern Indochina.
Natural Habitat
Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forest.
Subspecies Status
Three subspecies of Alcippe fratercula are currently recognized.
First Subspecies Range
The first is A. f. yunnanensis Harington, HH, 1913, which ranges from southern China (southern Sichuan and eastern Yunnan) to northeastern Myanmar (Kachin).
Second Subspecies Range
The second is A. f. fratercula Rippon, G, 1900, found from central Myanmar to southern China, northern Thailand, and northwestern Laos.
Third Subspecies Range
The third is A. f. laotiana Delacour, JT, 1926, which occurs in north-central and central Laos, and north-central Vietnam.
