About Alchornea cordifolia (Schumach. & Thonn.) Müll.Arg.
Alchornea cordifolia, commonly known as the Christmas bush, is a shrub or small tree that grows throughout tropical Africa, reaching up to 8 metres in height. This plant is used in traditional African medicine. It is cultivated for medicinal purposes in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Alchornea cordifolia provides dye and wood, and is widely used as food. Its dried leaves can be used as a substitute for tea. In traditional medicine, the roots are used to treat venereal diseases, amoebic dysentery, and diarrhoea, and the plant is also used to make eye drops to treat eye diseases such as conjunctivitis.
