About Albuca setosa Jacq.
Albuca setosa Jacq. has a globose bulb, with a coarse fibrous collar at the bulb's top formed from persistent remnants of leaf tunics. This collar appears as rough brown hairs around the base of the plant's leaf rosette. Its dark green leaves are smooth, only very faintly succulent, and linear to lanceolate in shape. Leaves are often wider at the base, tapering to an acuminate tip, and can sometimes desiccate during the summer when the plant's flowers open. The species has a compact peduncle that ends in a lax raceme. Its flowers are held upright on long stalks, with small ovate-lanceolate bracts. Flower colour ranges from yellow to white, with thick darker central lines on the tepals. Flowers of Albuca setosa appear in spring and early summer.
