About Alaena amazoula Boisduval, 1847
Alaena amazoula, commonly known as the yellow Zulu, is a butterfly species belonging to the family Lycaenidae. This species is found in southern Africa. Males of Alaena amazoula have a wingspan ranging from 22 to 28 mm, while females have a wingspan ranging from 25 to 32 mm. Adult yellow Zulu butterflies are active from October to May each year, reaching peak activity between December and January. This species produces one new generation per year. The larvae of Alaena amazoula feed on species of Cyanobacteria.
