Scientific name: Agrostis exarata Trin. This is a common perennial bunchgrass that grows 1 to 3 feet tall. It has long, thin, flat leaves, each with a ligule measuring 2 to 4 millimeters (0.079 to 0.157 inches). Its tufted inflorescence can reach up to 30 centimeters (12 inches) long, and it is usually dense with tiny spikelets. It reproduces primarily by seed, but can also spread through rhizomes. This grass grows in many plant communities across a variety of climates, and it is considered good quality forage for livestock.
