About Agrochola litura Linnaeus, 1761
Scientific name: Agrochola litura Linnaeus, 1761. Technical description and variation. The forewing of A. litura is bluish grey or violet grey, with the basal half slightly paler. All wing lines are marked by black spots on the costa; the submarginal line also has an oblique bar. The inner and outer lines are dark, obscurely double, and have pale centres. The stigmata are large with pale annuli, and the reniform stigma generally has a darker centre. The hindwing is dull fuscous. polluta Esp. is the large dark form, ornatrix Hbn. is the small dark form; both have well-developed costal spots. borealis Sp.-Schn. (synonym saturata Schultze) has the basal half of the wing prominently pale. meridionalis Stgr., a Southern race that is now treated as a full species, is paler, colored bluish-grey or yellowish-grey with a prominent grey brown or red-brown median shade. ochreata Spul., found in Central Europe, is purplish grey with a yellow tinge, and its basal half is often whitish ochreous. In rufa Tutt, the ground colour is reddish brown instead of purple grey. ab. luteogrisea ab. nov., from Amasia, is pale stone colour, with distinct but not prominent markings, and a paler underside. The larva can be grey, brown, or reddish. It has a pale dorsal line, generally with several fine lines running close to it. The spiracular line is white with a yellow lower edge. The larval head is brown, and the thoracic and anal plates are dark green with 3 white lines. The wingspan is 35–38 mm.
