About Agriocnemis keralensis Peters, 1981

Agriocnemis keralensis Peters, 1981 is a small species of damselfly currently recorded only in Kerala and Goa. Due to its tiny size and close morphological resemblance to Agriocnemis pygmaea, this damselfly is easily overlooked during field observations. For individuals of this species, males have brown-capped green eyes, a black thorax with apple green stripes along the lateral sides, and a reddish abdomen marked with black. The dorsal surface of the second abdominal segment has a distinct marking shaped like a cobra's hood. Female individuals of this species have an apple green abdomen marked with black. This damselfly is most commonly found resting on grass growing along the banks of weedy ponds, situated near paddy fields, lakes, and small streams.
