About Agriades podarce

Agriades podarce, commonly known as the arrowhead Arctic blue, gray blue, or Sierra Nevada blue, is a butterfly species belonging to the family Lycaenidae. This butterfly is found in North America, ranging from southern Oregon to central California, specifically inhabiting the Klamath Range and the Sierra Nevada. Its preferred habitat is subalpine meadows. The wingspan of adult Agriades podarce measures between 22 and 26 mm. Adults produce one generation per year, and are active on the wing from June through September. Adult butterflies feed on flower nectar, with preferred nectar sources including yellow composites and bistort. The larvae of this species feed exclusively on Dodecatheon jeffreyi. This species overwinters in either the caterpillar or chrysalid stage.
