About Agnorhiza ovata (Torr. & A.Gray) W.A.Weber
Agnorhiza ovata is a perennial herb that grows from a thick taproot and caudex unit. It occupies many different habitat types, including pine forests, woodlands, and grassland. Its stem is hairy, glandular, and sticky in texture, reaching from just a few centimeters tall to a maximum height of nearly half a meter. This plant produces leaves with oval blades up to 20 centimeters long; the blades are generally hairy or silky, and glandular. Its inflorescence consists of one or more flower heads, which may be tucked among the plant's uppermost leaves. Each flower head has lance-shaped, leaflike phyllaries that may grow up to 5 centimeters long. The flower head holds 5 to 8 yellow ray florets that measure roughly 1.5 centimeters in length, plus many yellow disc florets in its center. The fruit produced is an achene about one centimeter long, tipped with a short pappus.
