About Agave weberi J.F.Cels ex J.Poiss.
Agave weberi J.F.Cels ex J.Poiss. is a relatively short suckering Agave species, with leafy trunks that rarely grow more than 1 m (3 ft) tall. Its leaves may be arching or reflexed, and can grow up to 1.6 m (5.2 ft) long and 18 cm (7 in) across. Its flowering stalks can reach a height of 8 m (26 ft), and its yellow flowers grow up to 8 cm (3 in) long. The current distribution of Agave weberi is shaped by human activity. It is thought to have originated in northeastern Mexico, specifically in the states of San Luis Potosí and Tamaulipas. Today, it is naturalized in Texas and Florida in the United States, and in the Northern Provinces of South Africa. In Florida, it grows in sandy soils, especially near coasts. It is cultivated as an ornamental plant, and also grown for pulque production and for fiber.
