About Agave guadalajarana Trel.
Agave guadalajarana Trel. grows as a basal rosette that reaches about 1–2 feet (0.3–0.6 m) in diameter. Its leaves are grey-green, and bear distinctive overlapping marks from where new leaves press against older ones. Large spines line the edges of each leaf, and a thick brown spine sits at the tip of each leaf. Its flower spike can grow up to 13 ft (4.0 m) tall. This species is frequently confused with the similar species Agave inaequidens. In cultivation, Agave guadalajarana is grown as an ornamental plant. It is easy to grow, and grows best when propagated from seed sown directly into the soil that will host the mature plant. Multiple fertilizer applications during the growing season benefit the plant, and it grows best when kept in a reasonably sized container.
