About Agave decipiens Baker

Agave decipiens Baker is a tree-like (arborescent) agave species that forms a trunk up to 4 meters tall, and it frequently produces vegetative offshoots called suckers. Most of its leaves reach around 100 cm in length, though leaves up to twice that size have been documented. Its leaves have wavy margins lined with teeth. The species produces flowering stalks that grow up to 5 meters tall, topped by a large panicle holding greenish-yellow flowers. Its fruit is a dry capsule that can reach up to 5 cm long. Agave decipiens is endemic to Florida, where it grows on hummocks in the Everglades and other marshy areas located very close to sea level. It is cultivated as an ornamental plant in other regions, and has been reported to be naturalized in Spain, India, Pakistan, and South Africa.
