About Agapanthia violacea (Fabricius, 1775)

Agapanthia violacea (Fabricius, 1775) is a species of flat-faced longhorn beetle. It is classified in the subfamily Lamiinae of the family Cerambycidae. This species can be found across most of Europe and the Near East. This species shows significant color variability, which is visible through the different coloration of males and females. Adult Agapanthia violacea reach a length of 7–13 millimetres (0.28–0.51 in). Adults are active from May through August, and the species completes its full life cycle in one year. They are generalist feeders that consume a range of herbaceous plant species. Their main recorded host plants include Medicago sativa, Onobrychis viciifolia, and Centranthus ruber, and they also feed on species from the genera Scabiosa, Echium, Psoralea, Valeriana, and Salvia.
