About Aethes cnicana (Westwood, 1854)

This species has a wingspan of 14–17 mm (0.55–0.67 inches). It is very similar to Ancylis badiana, but can be distinguished by the following differences: the forewings have bright ferruginous-brown markings, the antemedian fascia is less angulated, less distinctly interrupted, and not dilated on the dorsum. Julius von Kennel provides a complete full description of this species. In terms of ecology, the adult moth flies from May to August, and individuals are often attracted to light. The larvae feed on plants from the genera Cirsium and Carduus.
