This species is found in the United States, with recorded occurrences in New York, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, North Carolina, and Virginia. Its habitat is prairie. The forewings of Aethes baloghi measure 4 to 6.8 millimetres (0.16 to 0.27 inches) in length. Adult moths are active from March through September, and the species likely produces multiple generations each year.
