About Aetheorhiza bulbosa (L.) Cass.

Sonchus bulbosus, commonly known as the tuberous hawk's-beard, is a flowering plant species belonging to the family Asteraceae. It is a tuberous geophyte native to Mediterranean basin countries in southern Europe, Western Asia, and North Africa, as well as to Terceira Island in the Azores and Ireland. Three subspecies of Sonchus bulbosus are currently accepted. Sonchus bulbosus subsp. bulbosus, with synonyms Hieracium stoloniferum Viv. and H. tuberosum Brot., is found in the Mediterranean basin, Azores (Terceira), and Ireland. Sonchus bulbosus subsp. microcephalus (Rech.f.) N.Kilian & Greuter is native to Greece, Turkey, Cyprus, Lebanon, and Syria. Sonchus bulbosus subsp. willkomii (Burnat & Barbey) N.Kilian & Greuter is native to the Balearic Islands.
