Aeshna brevistyla Rambur, 1842, commonly called the blue-spotted hawker, is a large species of dragonfly. It has a pair of pale stripes on each side of its thorax. Mature males of this species have blue eyes, while females have brown eyes. The blue-spotted hawker is widespread across Australia, New Zealand, Norfolk Island, and some Pacific Islands. Its presence in the Northern Territory has not been confirmed. This dragonfly can be found near ponds and marshes, and also in vegetation located far from water. It prefers still water habitats, but may also occur along calm streams.
