It occurs in the lowland forests of multiple regions: China (Yunnan and Guangdong), the Himalayas, Bhutan, Assam, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo, Sumatra, Java, Sulawesi, the Lesser Sunda Islands, and the Philippines. This species grows naturally in subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest. It is currently threatened by habitat loss.
