This species, Aellopos ceculus Cramer, 1777, has a wingspan ranging from 42 to 47 mm. It can be told apart from all other species in the Aellopos genus by the yellow median band present on the upperside of its hindwing. It primarily occurs in the northern part of South America, and has also been recorded as far north as Mexico.
