About Aegosoma scabricorne (Scopoli, 1763)
Aegosoma scabricorne, a long-horned beetle species, can reach a body length of 25–52 millimetres (0.98–2.05 in). It is one of the largest long-horned beetles found in Europe. Its elongated body is finely pubescent and colored reddish yellow. The head narrows behind the eyes. Antennae are made up of 11 segments, and male antennae are rough in texture. The prothorax narrows toward the front, and has blunt teeth at its basal angle. The elytra each feature two weak longitudinal ribs. In males, the antennae extend all the way to the tip of the body, while in females the antennae are slightly shorter than the body. The abdomen is glabrous, and females have a protruding oviduct. This species is distributed across central and southern Europe, parts of Asia including Japan, China, and Indonesia, and the Middle East including Iran and the Caucasus.
