About Aechmea chantinii (Carrière) Baker

Aechmea chantinii (Carrière) Baker, commonly called the Amazonian zebra plant, is a bromeliad species frequently grown as an ornamental plant. It is native to the Amazon rainforest, where it occurs across Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. Two infraspecific taxa are currently recognized. Aechmea chantinii var. chantinii (Carrière) Baker, published in 1889, is found across most of the species’ full range. Aechmea chantinii var. fuchsii H.Luther, published in 1988, is native to Ecuador. Numerous cultivars of Aechmea chantinii exist.
